On the advice of the Mayor’s Office for New Bostonians and WCB2010 media relations partner, Elevate Communications, WCB2010 partnered with Wheelock College, the New England Revolution, Univision, and El Mundo to host a panel discussion and breakfast for members of foreign-language and ethnic media on April 15, 2010. WCB2010 stakeholders from Boston Centers for Youth and Family, Wheelock College, the New England Revolution, and South Africa Partners introduced the panel, which was moderated by Alberto Vasallo, Vice President & Publisher of El Mundo.
The conversation focused on how sports and sports media can help bridge cultural divides and better reflect the concerns of minority and ethnic communities. The panelists were: Mary Tiseo, Executive Director, South Africa Partners, Ryan Fitzgerald, Director of Recreation, Sports & Fitness Division, Greg Lee, Assistant Sports Editor, Boston Globe, Larry Ridley, Sportscaster, WHDH Channel 7, Alex Von Lichtenberg, General Manager, Univision and Craig Tornberg, General Manager, New England Revolution and WCB2010 Steering Committee Member.
The breakfast was attended by 30 members of the ethnic media, representing radio, newspaper and television outlets serving the Brazilian, Haitian, Vietnamese, Latino, African American and various other communities. Volunteers supported WCB2010 staff in discussing the initiative and distributing collateral.
